Inspection. Inspection, as used herein, is defined as both examination (such as visual or auditory investigation without the use of special laboratory appliances or procedures) and testing (determination by technical means of physical and chemical properties) of the item.
Tests. Tests shall be conducted in accordance with commercial practice to determine compliance with specification requirements. Where feasible, the same sample shall be used for determination of two or more test characteristics.
Sampling for tests. Sampling for tests, including dimensional test, shall be conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-105, with an AQL of 2.5 (percent defective) and an inspection level of S-3. The unit of product for test purpose shall be one x-ray protective screen.
Tests
Lead equivalency. An x-ray radiograph shall be taken in two random areas of the vinyl sheeting. The resulting x-ray exposures shall be examined and compared with standard exposures taken through a lead step edge. A lead equivalency of less than 0.25 millimeters of lead on either test sample, shall constitute a defect.
Density uniformity. The vinyl sheeting shall be tested by x-ray exposure at 100 kvp in a minimum of two random places on each screen. Any essential different density shall constitute a defect.
Rigidity test. With the x-ray protective screen in the normal position, and the base held firmly, a force of 50 pounds shall be applied at any point, and in any direction, on the top member of the screen. Play in any direction, exceeding two inches, shall constitute a defect.
Rolling test. The x-ray protective screen shall be placed on a smooth horizontal tile or concrete floor. The casters shall be clean. A horizontal force shall be applied gently to the top member of the screen, at any point, and in any direction. The force shall be gradually increased until the screen rolls or upsets. If the screen upsets, it shall constitute a defect.
