COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCREEN, X-RAY PROTECTIVE
(Frame Mounted, Mobile)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-S-36463 which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers a frame mounted mobile x-ray protective screen.
Salient characteristics:
The x-ray protective screen shall be a mobile radiation protective device suitable for use in protecting the patient against scattered radiation during chest, skull, and spine radiography, or to drape over table for extremities. The screen shall be radiographic lead impregnated vinyl sheeting supported by a caster mounted frame (se figure 1 for a typical design).
The screen shall be radiographic lead impregnated vinyl sheeting 24 inches wide by 96 inches long, made from lead impregnated vinyl with a smooth, washable finish on both sides. The sheeting shall be uniformly impregnated with a sufficient amount of lead, or a compound of lead, to provide a lead equivalent of 0.5 mm minimum when the sheeting is doubled over the top cross member of the mobile frame. The screen may be faced one or both sides colored vinyl resin. If the screen is layered, bonding shall be continuous and permanent so that no separation will occur.
The screen shall be folded in two and mounted on an all-welded chrome-plated frame. The screen top shall have a minimum adjustable height range of 33-1/4 inches to 47-3/4 inches. The screen shall be securely supported at the desired height. The frame shall be free of burrs and sharpness. The chrome plating shall be free from scratches, pits, rough areas, and other surface defects.
