SHIELD, GONODAL, X-RAY PROTECTIVE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers an adjusting shadow-casting shield for patients during radiological examination in military medical treatment facilities.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be an adjustable protective device for shielding the gonads of male and female patient during radiological examinations.
When properly aligned in the primary x-ray beam and associated beam-defining light, the device shall permit the casting of a shadow over the patient’s gonads.
Shall be either capable of permanent attachment to a suitable component of the x-ray unit or provide an adjustable mechanism for attachment to all diameters of tube end housings.
The thickness of material shall have the equivalent of at least 0.5 mm of lead. Shall meet applicable standards and requirements of the Bureau of Radiological Health.
Workmanship. The x-ray protective shield shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One x-ray protective shield, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
