CALIPER, X-RAY TECNIQUE

This Commercial Item Description covers a device used for measuring the thickness of body parts.
Salient characteristics.
The x-ray technique caliper shall be a device with one fixed jaw and one easy moving sliding jaw, suitable for measuring the thickness of body parts for determining x-ray technique. The sliding jaw shall move freely along the vertical scale but with sufficient tension to remain in any set position desired.
Material used in the fabrication of the caliper shall be aluminum alloy 6061-T6, or corrosion-resisting steel. The sliding jaw shall be 0.0064 inch thick. The stationary member shall be nominal 1/8 inch thick.
The caliper shall be suitable for measuring thickness from 0 inch to a minimum of 16 inches. The zero point shall be at the base of the scale. The calibrations and numerals shall be stamped in the scale and the depressions shall be filled with black paint. The numerals shall be legible and of a permanent nature. When tested as specified, the distance indicated on the scale shall be within 1/4 inch of the dimension of the test block.
