DENSITOMETER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a handheld, battery operated densitometer for use in measuring density of exposed medical x-ray film.
Salient characteristics.
The densitometer shall be an easy-to-use, precision instrument for use in measuring optical densities of exposed medical x-ray films. The instrument shall be hand-held and battery operated, capable of being used with any fluorescent bulb type x-ray film illuminator as the light source, even under conditions of fluctuating light source.
The densitometer shall be capable of measuring densities through a range of 0.00D to 3.50D and shall be accurate to within + 0.020D over the specified range in the table – reference mode.
The densitometer shall have a digital display, a zero adjustment, and a low battery voltage indicator to warn of possible inaccurate readings. The battery shall be designed for a long life of approximately 500 to 1000 hours.
Densitometer finish shall be uniform and free of scratches or discolorations.
Workmanship. The densitometer shall be free from defects which may detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One densitometer, as specified, constitutes one unit.
