COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CASSETTE, RADIOGRAPHIC FILM
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers a 24 by 24 cm, lightweight film cassette with two high speed intensifying screens suitable for use in medical treatment facilities.
Salient characteristics:
The cassette (radiographic film holder) shall have two high speed intensifying screens, and be suitable for use in medical treatment facilities.
The cassette shall consist of two aluminum covers mounted in an aluminum, American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Series 300 corrosion-resisting steel, or polyurethane frame joined together on the long dimension by a suitable hinge, or hinges. The cassette tube side (front side) shall have a scratch resistant vinyl covering. On the side opposite the hinge, there shall be a suitable fail safe, flush mounted, latching system.
The cassette shall be designed to insure the proper tightness and contact of the film against the screens. One cover shall have a foam backing to enhance this tightness. The back cover shall contain sufficient lead to preclude excess scattered radiation.
The back cover of the cassette shall have a window with a latched cover in order to perform identification procedures in daylight areas.
The intensifying screens shall be in accordance with the latest revision of ANSI Standard PH1.50 Dimensions for Radiographic Film Cassette Intensifying Screens. This commercial item description shall govern in the event it deviates from the ANSI Standard.
