CHAMBER, X-RAY FILM PROCESSING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a manually operated dental portable darkroom for processing dental x-ray film without plumbing or electricity.
Salient characteristics:
The x-ray film processing chamber shall be a non-automatic, plastic, dental chairside portable darkroom for processing (hand developing) intra-oral dental x-ray film without plumbing electricity.
The processing chamber shall consist of a sturdy molded structural plastic body with a detachable molded structural plastic base. The base shall fit snugly into the body so as to prevent the entry of light into the unit. The body and the base shall be easily separated and easily cleaned.
The processing chamber shall be box-shaped with two diverging sides to provide normal arm positioning and an interior-posterior dimension of not less than 10 inches (25.40 cm). overall dimensions with base shall be approximately 17 inches long, by 11 inches deep, by 11 inches high (43.18 cm by 27.94 cm by 27.94 cm).
Each diverging side at the front of the body shall have hand-holes approximately 4.5 inches (11.4 cm ) in diameter which are equipped with replaceable nylon reinforced neoprene rubber hand-entry frames which shall grip the wrists gently, yet effectively prevent entry of light into the unit.
The body shall have rectangular opening at the top approximately 11.5 inches by 4.5 inches (29.0 cm by 11.4 cm) which shall be covered by a removable see-through amber light-filtering panel which shall provide easy entry from above. The amber panel shall completely filter out normal room lighting.
